Joseph M. Spain, 84, passed away August 15, 2022 at his home in Collierville surrounded by his wife and children. Mr. Spain had grown up at St. Peter’s Orphanage in Memphis. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Spain formally owned a Car Quest automotive store in Memphis and later worked as a manager at Faith Tank in West Memphis. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing and had a hole-in-one at Audubon Park. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus and The Silver Foxes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Spain and a brother, Robert “Bob” Spain.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Crowder Spain; daughter, Sheila Spain Miller (Timothy); son, Alan J. Spain (Delisa); three grandchildren, Morgan Black (Josh), Briaunna Bonicelli (Christian) and Aiden Miller; three great-grandchildren; sister, Phillis Smith and a twin brother, James F. Spain (Barbara).
The family will receive friends on Thursday August 18 from 6-8 p.m. at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 W Poplar Avenue, Collierville, Tennessee. A Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m.
A Requiem Mass will be held Friday August 19 at 1 p.m. at St. Theresa-Little Flower Catholic Church, 1644 Jackson Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. Interment will follow at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Road, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133.
