Joyce Marie Moore Holland

Joyce Marie Moore Holland of Collierville passed away peacefully Monday February 2, 2015 at the age of 79. She was born March 3, 1935 in the Moore's Mill Community in Northeast Mississippi, the 4th child of Marie Basden and Olen Moore. She is survived by her husband of 62 years James Molton Holland; her siblings Flo Henry, Ferne Jackson and Billy Moore; daughter Ripple Holland Merrill and her husband Mark; son James Mitchell Holland Sr. and his wife Teri; son John Moore Holland and his wife Sara; nine grandchildren; Bethan Holland Raines, Sarah Elizabeth Merrill, James Mitchell Holland, Jr., Will Nixon Holland, John Mark Merrill Jr., David Michael Merrill, Anne Rachael Holland, Patrick Joseph Holland, Eliot Nixon Holland and four great-grandsons: Elijah Holland Raines, Gavin Gray Holland, Eero Holland Raines, John Wendell Holland Raines. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kathryn and her infant son Joseph. Joyce was a loving and gregarious wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a joy to all who knew her. She grew up in North Mississippi and married her husband James in December 1952; they moved to Memphis in 1955. She loved to cook for and feed any and everyone, and was especially known for her glorious breakfasts. She was a talented seamstress, who was always honing her craft and also had a huge appreciation for anyone else’s talents. Most of all she was a master gardener, she loved her flowers. She could make anything grow, and grow beautifully. She had an infectious laugh, a big love for all her family, and an even bigger love for Jesus. She will be missed by all. Visitation will be Thursday February 5 at 9:30, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. both at St. Patrick Presbyterian Church, 463 Hwy 72, Collierville.
