Juawice Cornelia Sesley

Some people leave their mark through grand gestures, while others change lives through the quiet consistency of who they are. Juawice Cornelia Tucker-Sesley belonged to the latter. She never sought recognition, yet her influence was undeniable. Her life was measured not by titles or accolades, but by the countless lives she touched with kindness, authenticity, and quiet strength.

Juawice possessed a calming presence that made people feel at ease. She was humble, genuine, and unassuming, never needing to announce who she was because her character spoke for itself. Mentally "brick strong," she faced life's challenges with resilience and grace. She was compassionate without being naïve, loyal without compromise, and authentic to her core.

Juawice was born on May 24, 1939, in Memphis, TN to William Tucker and Juanita Wallace Tucker. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1957, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Willie Aaron Sesley, Sr. To their union, Willie Aaron, Jr. and Tonja Yvette, were born.

Juawice accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of First Baptist Church. Once she re-dedicated her life to the Lord, she joined First Baptist Broad. She attended faithfully until the parking lot stroll became too much, at which time she tuned-in on the telecast.

Juawice began her professional career with the historic Universal Life Insurance Company. She was later employed by Humko, which subsequently became Kraft Foods, Inc., where she established a distinguished career marked by professionalism, determination, and excellence.

As one of the company's early Black female executives, Juawice excelled in an era when opportunities were not always equally afforded. Working in the Employee Benefits Division, she traveled to Kraft manufacturing facilities in the mid-west providing expertise and support to employees. Juawice was featured in the Chicago Tribune highlighting her career with Kraft. Juawice retired from Kraft in 1994.

Juawice embraced a full and meaningful life from beginning to end. On July 14, 2026, at the age of 87, Juawice peacefully completed her earthly journey, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, quiet dignity, and unwavering authenticity. Preceded in death by her parents, William Tucker and Juanita Wallace Tucker; her brothers, William Tucker, Jr., and Claude Tucker; her beloved son, Willie Aaron Sesley, Jr.; and her grandson, Willie Aaron Sesley III.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted daughter, Tonja Y. Sesley; her treasured great-granddaughter, Layla Aaron Sesley (Shayla) ; her loving sister, Claudette Brown; her devoted son, Ricky L. Tucker (Gwendolyn); her daughters, Gwendolyn Y. Edwards and Rita W. Riddle; along with a host of family members, dear friends and all whose lives were made richer by knowing her.

Juawice's legacy is not defined by the years she lived, but by the lives she strengthened, the family she loved, and the examples she set. Her quiet spirit, unwavering resilience, and authentic way of living will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. She lived unpretentiously, loved deeply, and remained faithfully true to God and herself, living life to the fullest.
