Katherine Miller Spotts of Collierville, TN left behind her earthly pains and worries on October 23, 2025, surrounded by two of her daughters and the love from numerous nurses who cared for her at Heritage at Irene Woods since 2020. Katherine, “Kit,” was born at home on October 29, 1937 in Munford, Alabama. She was the fifth child and eldest daughter to Leila Beatrice (nee Thomspon) and James Otho Miller.
Being a city girl at heart and enjoying window displays on Main Street, she jumped at the chance to travel with her older brother, Richard, when he was stationed with the Air Force in Little Rock, Arkansas shortly after she graduated Anniston High School in 1956. Moving in with her brother, Ray in Dothan, Alabama, a few years later, brought her to her future husband, Edward R. Spotts, US Army stationed at Fort Rucker. They married on July 4, 1959 after a short three-month engagement. She was a devoted military wife and mother of four, each one born in a different state or country with the Army taking the growing family from the South to Washington, throughout the Midwest and to Europe twice. However, that did not define her. She worked outside the house at the Kmart Corporation in Lake City, FL from 1985 until 1993 when she became an empty nester and started her travels again. Wal-Mart Corporation welcomed her as a Claims Clerk, in California, Arkansas, and Ohio. Eventually, she settled down in Germantown, TN in 1998 and continued to work until 2017 when she retired at the young age of 80. She loved her job and would put many 20-year-olds to a challenge when it came to energy and work ethic. However, her greatest joy was being a grandmother. Her love language was baking and she knew everyone’s favorite. As an avid reader her head was full of various trinkets of knowledge yet her often-quiet listening hid her true brilliance. When asked why she was quiet she’d reply “I know what I have to say but I want to hear what you have to say.”
Her quiet and strong presence will be missed by so many. She is survived by all her children: son, Jeri (Jill) Spotts, Colorado Springs, CO; three daughters, Sheri Blevins, Troutdale, OR; Teri (Jeff) Cox, Collierville, TN; and Constance Spotts, Colby, KS and seven grandchildren: Anthony Spotts, MN; Yolanda Harden, IA; Jamie Spotts, CO; Jennifer Blevins, OR, Kenneth and Michael Cox, Collierville, TN; Joya and Amoira Cathcart, Chesapeake, VA and six great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister Betty M. (Terry) Curren of Alexandria, AL, and three brothers: Randy (Angie) Miller, Denton, TX, Ron (Kathrine) Miller, Anniston, AL, and Rodney “Pete” (Janice) Miller, Valrico, FL, plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her older brothers: Ralph, Rex, Ray, Richard Miller and sister, Mary Ellen Miller Conner.
