Lawrence Adam Barrett, age 84, passed away Saturday May 8 after a long and fulfilling life. Born on October 23, 1936 in Alleghany, California, he is the son of Robert H. and Grace Barrett. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Helen, son Robert Barrett (Ja’na), daughters Sharon Patterson and Phyllis O’Bryan, grandchildren Sharon Jones (Brandon), Stephen Barrett and Drew Barrett, great grandchildren Mylee Barrett and Robert Jones. He is preceded in death by his sister, Maureen Zimmerman.
A graduate of Reno High School and the University of Nevada, B.S. Civil Engineering, Lawrence was a Professional Engineer and enjoyed a long career as a general contractor. He was well known and respected in the Mid-South construction community working for The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, Allen & O’Hara, Inc. and after retirement, as a consultant for Rhodes College. A veteran of the US Army, Lawrence was a Sergeant stationed in Washington DC in the early 60’s.
An avid outdoorsman, Lawrence enjoyed all types of hunting and fishing with his father growing up in Northern California and Nevada and with his son and grandchildren and many friends in the Mid-South.
Family and friends will gather in celebration of his life on Friday, May 21 beginning at 4:00 pm for visitation with services at 6:00 at Collierville Funeral Home at 534 West Poplar Ave, Collierville, TN 38017.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
