

Martha Nell Joyner, lovingly known as Nell, age 82, passed away peacefully at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Dickson, Tennessee on March 19, 2026, after a battle with lung cancer. She was born on August 4, 1943, in Fayette County, Tennessee, to the late W.T. and Pauline Joyner.
Nell was a graduate of Slayden High School and went on to build a long and dedicated career in the financial industry. She worked for many years with professionalism and care, retiring after 35 years as a manager of Dover Credit Union in Horn Lake, Mississippi.
After her retirement, Nell took on the trying yet rewarding role of caregiver for family members and close friends. This work was very important to her, and she devoted the past 15 years to caring for others with compassion, patience, and love.
Nell had a deeply artistic spirit and found joy in creative expression. She loved adult coloring books, drawing, writing, poetry, card giving for all occasions and painting. She especially enjoyed creating beautiful images through puzzles. Among her favorites were vibrant scenes of marbles in many colors, herds of zebras running free in the wild, and most especially, her beloved Indian puzzle, which held a special place in her heart.
She also showed her warmth and love through the thoughtful gift of handmade tie quilts, each one carefully created to reflect the unique personality of the person receiving it. These quilts will remain treasured reminders of her love and creativity.
She will be remembered for her creativity, quiet strength, and the love she shared with her family. Nell treasured time spent with those she loved most and leaves behind a legacy of warmth and devotion. Nell lived a life making friends everywhere she went.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Tina (Keith) Rimner; two sisters, Betty (James) Thomas, Diane (Marty) Kimble; one brother, Bobby (Yvonne) Joyner; her cherished 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Darrel Wayne Cothern; her parents, W.T. Joyner and Pauline Broadaway Joyner; three sisters, Janie (Chester) Switzer, Mary (Larry) Anderson, Jean Bell; two brothers, Jerry (Janet) Joyner, Larry (Sandra) Joyner.
Nell will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
