Mary Margaret Jean Smith was born on June 11, 2026. After a complicated pregnancy that she was not expected to survive, she defied the odds and brought light into our lives. Though she weighed only one pound at birth, she fought on for eight days. We prayed she would grow strong and healthy, but her body could fight no more, and the Lord called her home on the evening of June 19, 2026.
She is survived by her loving parents, Robert and Kacey; her brothers, Beau and Lee; her grandparents, Robbie Smith, Shelia Little, and Tim and Wendy Nanney; and her great-grandmothers, Mary Jean Smith and Barbara Taylor. She is also missed and loved by her aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and Trinity Church PCA family.
The family is deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women for the loving care they gave Mary Margaret throughout her brief life. Special thanks go to her nurse, Kyndel, and respiratory therapist, Emily, who watched over her through many days and nights. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Samson of Baptist Medical Group Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Dr. Mullenix of MOGA, whose skill and devotion brought Mary Margaret safely into the world.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Collierville United Methodist Church, Sanctuary on the Square, followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. A private graveside service for the family will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit Fund at the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation.
