Mr. Gibbs was born in Oxford, MS on January 24, 1938. He and his family relocated to Cordova in 1977. Max served in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1955 until 1959. It was during this time that he met and married his wife, Pak. Max and Pak were devoted to each other. The strength of their relationship is evident by their long marriage.
Max was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Memphis. He was a dedicated employee and rarely took time off. He retired after 20 years of service.
Max enjoyed Alabama football. Together with his son, Max, Jr. (Alabama ’85) he attended many regular season and national championship games. He always enjoyed rooting the team on from the stands or from the comfort of his home. He was often seen proudly wearing an Alabama sweatshirt. Max also enjoyed spending time with his wife. They enjoyed dinners out and trips to visit family.
He is survived by his wife, Jung, and his son, Max Roland Gibbs, Jr. (Aldie, VA); his granddaughters, Lainie and Lindie (Aldie, VA), daughter-in-law, Laurie (Aldie, VA) and relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his Mother Wanda, Step-Father Artis, Father William, Brother Earl, daughter Melinda, and son Johnny, all of Jackson, MI.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 21st, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 West Poplar Avenue, Collierville. Burial is scheduled at 10:15 a.m. at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road, Memphis.
