Maxine Ellis, 85, of Collierville, TN passed Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Maxine was born on June 3, 1936, in Prescott, AR to the late Willie and Annie Mae Underwood. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don Ellis, as well as her brothers and sister: Billy Underwood, Bobby Underwood, Jerry Underwood and Ina Underwood. Maxine is survived by her two siblings, Mrs. Myrtle Underwood Boster and Mr. Douglas Underwood.
Maxine graduated from Clarksville High School then went on to attend college at Arkansas Poly Tech in Russellville, AR. From there she moved to St. Louis, MO, and began working at the Woolworth lunch counter where she would meet her beloved Don. Together they raised seven daughters who were their pride and joy and affectionally referred to as ‘the girls’: Chiquita Paulson, Viki Bartels, Stacy Clabough, Kelly Inman, Tamberly Seagle, Amee Cooper and Tiffany Watkins. They were blessed with 23 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and one on the way.
Maxine was a faithful Christian, homemaker, avid gardener, wonderful seamstress and excellent cook. She loved to read. Her happiest moments were spent with her family and friends to whom she was devoted. Maxine was an active member of Germantown Baptist Church where she served faithfully. Don and Maxine raised their girls at Raleigh Baptist Church where she oversaw the nursery and preschool program.
Services will be held Monday, March 14th. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm with the service following at 2:00 pm at Collierville Funeral Home 534 West Poplar, Collierville, TN 38017. Memorials can be made to Baptist Reynolds Hospice Home and Germantown Baptist Church.
