Michael Wayne Yancey, 71, of Cordova, Tennessee, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Michael was born on June 29, 1954, in Millington, Tennessee. As a child, he lived in Spain while his father was stationed there with the United States Navy. The family returned to the United States in 1966. He graduated from Frazier High School and earned a degree in Industrial Arts at Memphis State University. Later, he became an Electrician and worked at Memphis State University, Memphis City Schools, and Shelby County Schools.
In his younger days, Michael could be found riding his motorcycle. He cherished family time, listening to music, cooking, and playing with his beloved dogs. He especially enjoyed grilling and preparing daily meals for his wife, Liz, and his mother.
He loved to take his daughter, Sarah, when she was younger, to ride The Zippin Pippin, famously known as Elvis Presley's favorite ride, a historic wooden roller coaster that operated at Memphis's Libertyland amusement park from 1923 until the park closed in 2005.
Michael had a deep love for his entire family - his aunts, uncles, and cousins, who affectionately called him "Mikey." Known for his sweet grin and a kind word, he was a positive, uplifting person who was always ready to help anyone he could.
Michael is survived by his wife, Liz Yancey, of Cordova, TN; his mother, Louise Yancey, of Cordova, TN; his daughter, Sarah Yancey Dixon (Kyle), and granddaughters, Ella Claire and Mary Hendrix Dixon, all of Senatobia, MS; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Stebbins Yancey, father, Mike Yancey, and his brother, Samuel Ellis Yancey.
