Millie Simpson Johns

Millie Simpson Johns, a beloved woman of faith, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 11, 2026. She was born on May 10, 1941, in Yorkville, Tennessee, to Andrew Gray Simpson and Ollie Modene Simpson. Over her 85 years, Millie loved her family deeply, served the Lord faithfully, and made a lasting impact on everyone blessed to know her.

Millie is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Garland Johns. Together, they built a life centered around their family, faith, and love for one another. She was a loyal member of Collierville Baptist Church. She is also survived by her brother, Calvin Simpson (Linda).

Millie was a loving mother to three children: Tammy Walker (Brent), Greg Johns (Jana), and Wade Johns (Lori). Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished every opportunity to have everyone together. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Gray Johns (Hannah), Matt Walker (Mallory), Mekenzie Kessler (Brad), Brad Walker (Brooke), Sydney Brown (Josh), Cade Johns (Savannah), and Jamie Johns. She was also blessed with two great grandsons, Leo Kessler and Joseph Johns, who brought her immense joy.

Millie could find the good in every person and in every situation. She was the kind of person whose love could be felt in the simplest of things. Her kitchen was often the heart of her home, and she had a special gift for making people feel loved through the meals she prepared. She loved to cook, and her turkey and dressing was a family favorite, something everyone looked forward to each year and talked about long after the last bite was gone. The memories of gathering around her table, enjoying her cooking and one another’s company, will be treasured for generations to come.

Millie also loved sitting around the table for a good card game. Whether it was a little friendly competition, with plenty of laughter, or simply being together, those moments became some of the sweetest memories her family and friends will carry with them. She had a way of turning ordinary moments into memories that would last a lifetime.

But more than anything, Millie loved Jesus. Her faith was not simply something she talked about; it was woven into the way she lived her life. She was a woman who loved the Lord, loved her family, and sought to live out her faith through the kindness and love she showed to others. Her faith was one of the greatest gifts she passed down to the generations who follow her.

Her family will miss her dearly: the sound of her voice, her laughter, her cooking, her stories, her love, and the comfort of simply having Millie there. However, they do not grieve without hope. They can rejoice knowing that Millie is now exactly where she longed to be, in the presence of her Savior, free from the cares of this world and finally home.

She is now at the feet of Jesus, and what a beautiful homecoming that must be.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Collierville First Baptist Church, 830 New Byhalia Rd, Collierville, TN 38017, on September 18, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on September 18, 2026, at 2:00 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Magnolia Cemetery 435 S Mt Pleasant Rd, Collierville, TN 38017, on September 18, 2026, at 3:30 pm.
