Nghi Huu Tran, 68, of Germantown, Tennessee, passed away on November 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Nghi lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and an unrelenting dedication to his family and friends. Nghi was born on January 1, 1957, to Toan Trong Tran and Thuy Thi Ngo in Saigon, Vietnam. He immigrated to the USA when he was 17 years old with one of his brothers to Fort Chaffee in Arkansas. He then moved to Chicago where he tirelessly supported himself by working every job he could find while learning English. He put himself through college at Illinois State obtaining a degree in computer science and math. Eventually he was hired by FedEx and moved to Memphis, TN with his family.
Nghi was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nga; his children, Jacqueline (Michael) Carpenter, Alexis (Daniel) Keene and Katie (Josh) Brock; his four grandchildren; and his eight brothers and sisters who will forever cherish the memories and love he shared with them. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a steadfast family man and happy go lucky friend, an avid cyclist and hiker who was always up for an adventure. He loved the outdoors and the beauty of this world. Nghi always said, "Life’s too short not to enjoy every moment." He certainly lived by those words.
A celebration of Nghi’s life will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Collierville Funeral Home. In his honor, please consider contributing to the National Park Foundation or planting a tree.
