Pattie Perrine Sain O’Brien, age 96, of Germantown, TN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Pattie was born in Lacey, TN on September 6,1927 to parents, Maude Lambert Sain and Grover Arnold Sain and she was the youngest of six children. At an early age, she was taught about the love of God and received Christ as her Lord and Savior at a church where her Grandpa Abner was a baptist minister and formed Hebron Baptist Church.
Pattie was educated in Bolivar, TN and graduated high school at the age of seventeen. After graduation, she moved to Memphis and lived with her older sister, Virginia Sue. There, she attended and graduated from Miss Wylie’s Office Training School and worked at the post office at night.. During that time, men were returning from the war and Pattie met Marine Sergeant James Carter O’Brien. After one date, he declared his love and they were married December 20,1947 in Corinth, MS. They had three daughters, Elaine, Deborah and Pamela.
After working as a secretary for twenty years, Pattie became a Senior Sales Director with MaryKay Cosmetics. This career gave her more time to enjoy the things that meant the most to her: Family, close friends, and hard work resulting in high achievements. She was a motivational speaker, mentor and encourager to other women. She even taught a homeschool group Speech, using the tools she learned in Toastmaster. Many of these students grew to be leaders in their fields. Pattie retired from MaryKay after fifty years of serving others.
Pattie has always been a great example of unconditional love, patience, kindness and meekness. She was always positive and tried to see the best in everyone, hence her nickname, Mary Poppins. Though she will be missed, we don’t lack hope like those that don’t know Christ. We have the confident hope that we will spend eternity together with Pattie and other loved-ones that have made the decision to follow Christ and receive the gift of eternal life that He offers us all. He loved us so much that He left His home in Heaven, was born of a virgin, took the guilt of our sins upon Himself by shedding His blood on the cross, and has offered us the gift of forgiveness and eternal life. Jesus died, was buried, rose three days later and currently sits on the right side of God our Father. One day, He is returning to take us home and we will spend eternity with Pattie and all those who have made Jesus Lord and Savior. What a celebration that will be!
Pattie was the most loving wife to Jim O’Brien (deceased), a loving mother to Elaine Sherman, Deborah Holder (deceased) and Pamela Holditch (Alan), a loving grandmother to Scott Young (Latisha), Neal Young (JoyceAnne), Benjamon Vaughn, Nathan Holditch (Laura), and Priscilla Redmond (PJ), a loving great -grandmother to Nicholas (Mary), Lacey, Reely, Brooks, Caleb, Cora, Austin, Jacob and a loving great, great grandmother to Drew, Elizabeth, Annie and Bentley Rose.
