

THE REVEREND DR. JOSEPH SYDNEY ""Syd"" CARNES went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 15, 2015. He was born December 2, 1929 in Memphis, TN to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Leslye Carnes. He is survived by his wife, Ann of 63 years; four children, Jane (Brian McDuffie), Jay (Karen), James and John (Shelli). Along with six grandchildren. Two siblings also survive him, his twin brothers, Charles (Joanne) of San Mateo, CA and John from Lafayette, LA. He was ordained into the christian ministry when he was 19 years old, received his under graduate degree in 1956, Master of Divinity degree from Texas Christian University, also Doctorate of Christian Ministry from T.C.U. Certified as a Pastoral Counselor from Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. He served 10 different churches: Lakeview, Dallas, TX; Bethany Christian Church, Eads, TN; Taylor Memorial, Memphis, TN; Covington, TN; Waco, TX, Clarksville, TX; Eugene, OR; Nampa, Idaho, Lakeview, Dallas, TX, and Oak Cliff, Dallas, TX. After his retirement, he served 14 interims. He was a Col. in the Texas State Guard as well as being Chief of Chaplains for the state, co-author of Communion Mediations (1966) Founding Director of Nampa Christian Housing in Nampa, Idaho; President of Christian Church in Idaho; 33 Degree Mason, Order of Eastern Star, and the Lion's Club. His avocations were hunting, fishing and world travel. Visitation will be at Bethany Christian Church, Eads, TN beginning at 2 p.m. until Service at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015. Burial will also be there in the Bethany Cemetery immediately following the worship service. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Lord's Acre Fund at Bethany Christian Church.
