“Dick fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith” – 2 Timothy 4:7
It is with deep sorrow and abiding faith in God’s eternal promise that we announce the passing of our beloved Dick Sweebe, who went home to be with the Lord on June 14, 2025, at the age of 75.
Dick was a devoted servant of Christ, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Dick was a beacon of love, grace, and compassion to all he encountered. Born in Fort Wayne, IN, to Clarence and Martha Sweebe, who preceded him in death, he lived a life marked by kindness, humility, and unwavering faith.
A faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Dick served the Lord through his involvement in ministries, the board of trustees, the church council, and capital campaign fundraising. Fortunately for all, he was not a part of the choir. Dick found joy in sharing God’s love with all. He walked in faith and exemplified Christ’s love through his words and deeds.
During Dick’s time on this earth, he left a lasting impact. He was the founder and CEO of one of the largest International Truck and Idealease Companies in the country. In 2009, he was named Truck Dealer of the Year by Heavy Duty Trucking Magazine. Dick received multiple awards during his time as a truck dealer including: the Navistar Financials Presidents Award, International Circle of Excellence, Idealease Affiliate of the Year, and Isuzu Ichiban Award. In 2012, he was presented with a key to the City of Memphis in honor of his contributions made to the city for over 30 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Adrian College, where he served as president of the ATO fraternity, and went on to serve on the Adrian College Board of Trustees. Although Dick had significant contributions and accomplishments in his career, he would tell you that his biggest accomplishment was his family and the friendships he developed throughout his career and life.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife/wingman of 52 years, Bobbi Jo Sweebe, children, Andrew Sweebe and Mary Ezell (Josh Ezell), and his four grandchildren, Ashton Sweebe, Richie Sweebe, Mila Ezell, and JB Ezell. He is also survived by Ashton and Richie’s mother, Tammie Sweebe, his two sisters, Donna Schuerman and Amy Reasor, and sister-in-law Susie Sarelis.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21st, from 12pm-2pm at Emmanuel United Methodist Church (2404 Kirby Rd. Memphis, TN 38119), with the funeral services following at 2pm.
A celebration of life will be held at Windyke Country Club at 4pm. The family invites all who knew and loved Dick to join them in remembrance. Food and drinks will be provided. As Dick would always say, “We will have a big time”.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any gifts be made to The Arc of Northwest Mississippi (6545 Elmore Rd. Southaven, MS 38671). They can be found online at www.thearcnwms.org
