Robert Lewis Seidman

It is with deep sorrow but fond remembrance that we announce the passing of Robert Seidman, who left us on July 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous and valiant battle with cancer. Robert proved to be as stubborn in death as he was in life. Born on June 17, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, Robert was the cherished son of Lewis and Bee Seidman and a beloved brother to the late David Seidman. He was a man who cherished family above all. He shared 59 loving years with his devoted wife, Linda, whom he married on June 17, 1967. They managed to put up with each other for all of that time, raising two children and creating a lifetime of fond memories. He is survived by Linda, sons James and Jeffery, daughter in law Jennifer, as well as his loving grandchildren: Sarah, Zoe, Jake, and Evelyn (Evie).

Robert' journey began in Cleveland, where he completed his early education at University School in Gates Mills, Ohio, graduating in 1962. He then pursued higher education, graduating with a degree in industrial management from Miami University in 1966.

Following college, Robert began his military service, embarking on officer's training school through the United States Air Force in September 1967. In 1969, Robert left for Ubon Air Force Base in Thailand where he continued his service to his country, which was marked by bravery and dedication; completing 196 missions as an F-4 fighter jet pilot during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to the United States, he continued to contribute to the Air Force as a T-37 pilot instructor, a role in which he excelled, mentoring others to become instructors themselves.

Tiring of his desk job and wishing to return to the skies, in February 1979 Robert transitioned from military service to a commercial aviation career with the burgeoning freight airline Federal Express. Upon moving to Germantown, TN, he began his civilian career in the Falcon, becoming the most Junior Falcon Captain ever at FedEx to that point. His career spanned 25 years, during which he held various roles, ultimately retiring as a Captain of the DC-10 on January 1, 2004.

Beyond his professional achievements, and due to both his inability to sit still and his desire to be of service to his community, Robert's heart was dedicated to his true passion of serving as a volunteer firefighter. For 44 years, he selflessly served with the Germantown, Piperton, and Rossville Fire Departments. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated and passionate firefighter, always ready to share his knowledge and experience, and to lend a helping hand.

Robert's life was rich with interests, particularly his love for cars. He owned and tinkered on over 50 vehicles, notably exotic sports cars like Porsches, Ferraris, and Austin Healy Bugeyes. His garage was often filled with the sounds of a passionate hobbyist working on his latest project, even if those sounds shouldn’t be overheard by his grandchildren. He also was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, and his annual trip to Spring Training with his family was a decades long tradition.

In honor of Robert's memory, the family invites those who wish to make a donation to the Germantown Animal Shelter in lieu of flowers. A celebration of life will be held on August 8, 2026 at the Collierville Funeral Home on Bailey Station Road. Visitation will begin at 2:30 with services beginning at 4.

Robert Seidman's life was a testament to courage, dedication, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
