Thomas Anthony Gabany

Affectionately known to many as Tony, he was born April 2, 1953 and was the son of Michael J. Gabany and Janie D. Gabany.

Tony met the love of his life, Christy, in high school and this September 4, 2026 would have been their 55th wedding anniversary.

Having served in the Army during the Vietnam era, he was honorably discharged in 1974. Tony was a Tribologist and retired from NASA Langley in 2003. He then answered his calling and spent a decade in the Philippines where he helped fund new wells, organized the distribution of school supplies to children in desolate communities, and made sure that the children would have gifts on Christmas morning. He was their secret Santa.

In 2017, he and Christy sold their home of 30 years in Gloucester, Virginia and moved to Tipton County, Tennessee to be closer to their daughter and her family.

Tony's parents, only sister, father and mother-in-law, and two sisters-in-law preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Christy Gabany of Covington, TN; daughter, Shannon Gabany-Boothe (Barry) of Atoka, TN; two grandsons, Shane Bryton Boothe (Deandrea) of Munford, TN and Aidan Christopher Boothe (Annia) of VA Beach, VA; brothers Michael Gabany (Roxann), Scott Gabany of Gloucester, VA and Jon Gabany of Carmel, IN; brother-in-law Tom Bradshaw (Nancy) of Newport News, VA and Bert Bradshaw (Toni) of Yorktown, VA; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a private service at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Germantown, TN for his immediate family and two memorial services. A service will take place at Holly Grove Presbyterian Church, 4538 Holly Grove Rd., Brighton, TN 38011 on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.; and a service in Gloucester, Virginia in September (date and location to be determined).

The family would like to thank Baptist Tipton ER, Baptist Transport EMTs, Dr. Jankov, Dr. Ahmadia, Dr. Addington, their respective staff, 5th and 2nd floor nurses and aides at Baptist-East Memphis, Docs Hometown Pharmacy, Walgreens Covington, Baptist Physical Therapy (Covington and Atoka locations) for their compassion and care these past eight months. And finally, Baptist Trinity Hospice and Baptist Reynolds Hospice House for the genuine support, respect, and acknowledgement in honoring our veteran.
