Thomas Fisher McCullough Jr.

Thomas Fisher McCullough Jr., 83, of Eads, Tennessee, passed away on July 9, 2026. Born December 6, 1942, in Downey, California, Thomas was the son of Edith and Thomas McCullough. He graduated from Bonita High School in La Verne, California.

In November 1960, at the age of 17, Thomas joined the United States Navy. He served honorably for 22 years earning an honorable discharge and the lasting respect that comes from steady, faithful service. Even amid the demands of military life, he made room for the simple joys that grounded him—often fishing before work, during lunch, and after work on the North Island Coronado naval base as a computer operator for 25 years in civil service.

On November 28, 1965, Thomas married the love of his life, Marilyn McCullough (Luttrell), whom he met at First Methodist Church Downtown in Memphis, Tennessee, earlier that year. Their marriage was a devoted partnership of 60 years, and together they welcomed one child, Christina Uller(McCullough).

Thomas’s life was marked by a quiet steadiness—patient, even-tempered, and mild-mannered, with a sweetness that put others at ease. He was helpful in ways both practical and heartfelt, and his love for people was matched by his love for the Lord. A capable and curious mind, Thomas was computer literate and delighted in gadgets and new technology, embracing what was new with calm confidence.

Fishing was more than a pastime for Thomas; it was a thread that ran through his days and travels. He enjoyed pier fishing, saltwater fishing, and deep-sea fishing from his inflatable boat in Hawaii, and wherever he went—even overseas—he felt the pull to find a place to cast a line. He also loved surfing in San Diego, Hawaii, and various beaches in California. At home, he enjoyed working in the yard, and he took simple pleasure in good food and everyday treats—especially snacks, fruit, and ice cream. His interests also included archery and bowling.

Thomas was a member of Hickory Withe Baptist Church, where his faith and gentle spirit found a natural home.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Marilyn; his only daughter, Christina; his grandson, Douglas Huey; his son-in-law, Lawrence Uller; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Edith McCullough; his sister, Gloria Throneberry; and his sister, Kathy Boudreau.

Thomas will be remembered with gratitude and respect—for a life of honorable service, for a heart that loved widely, and for the steady patience and kindness he offered to those around him.
