Toy Gerald Burgess, 83 years old, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in Germantown, Tennessee. Toy was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on May 2, 1943, to Elsie Mae Burgess and Wilbert Herman Burgess. He grew up in Spartanburg and graduated from Roebuck High School in 1961. On September 1, 2026, Toy celebrated 58 years of marriage to his wife, Dianne W. Burgess. He was also father to Brian Toy Burgess (Southern Pines, NC), Alison Toy Hogan (Chelsea, AL), and Kevin Toy Burgess (Tupelo, MS). The life work of Toy was to serve people and his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Toy’s professional career was in Human Resources and Public Relations that spanned five decades in both the textile and automotive manufacturing industries. Toy was devoted to Christian service having been an active member of Collierville First Baptist Church, an ordained Deacon, and served as a Gideons International member. Toy was also a Billy Graham Rapid Response Team Chaplain charged to help victims affected by natural disasters and crises and attend to their emotional and spiritual needs. Through his work, he and Dianne shared the gospel with many people. Toy enjoyed fishing, outdoor work, and spending time with family. Toy is survived by Dianne Burgess (Collierville, TN), Dr. Brian Toy Burgess (Melanie), Alison Toy Burgess Hogan (Jeremy), Kevin Toy Burgess (Casey), and eight grandchildren: Timothy Toy Blake Reynolds (Madalyn), Cassidy Toy Reynolds, Enoch Toy Burgess, Andrew Toy Burgess, Anna Grace Toy Burgess, Elizabeth Toy Burgess, Branly Gray Toy Burgess, and Drayton Toy Burgess. Preceded Toy in passing is Wilbert Herman Burgess (Father), Elise Burgess (Mother), and Glenn Burgess (Brother). The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Collierville First Baptist Church on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10-11 am with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 am.
