W. James Schafer JR., Army Veteran of Collierville, TN died at the age of 77 at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House on August 24, 2020. James was born in Bethlehem, PA. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 28 years, Gayle Janean Schafer, parents Wilbert and Lila Schafer. He is survived by his sister Elaine Elizabeth Schafer, daughters Toni Obrien and Rhonda Mullins (husband) Gary, and also son Curtis Schafer, of Burleson, TX. He married into two children Dr. Mark Freeland (wife) Jenny of Nashville, TN Kelly Freeland Roller, RN (husband) Troy of Collierville, TN. James had twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
James started his career with Bethlehem Steel, and then transferred to Fort Worth TX to work for American National Can Co. He was then transferred to Olive Branch, MS. He retired in 2005 from Rexam Corp. formally known as American National Can Co. after a long and prosperous career. James was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, enjoyed fishing and he also loved spending time with his family. He volunteered at the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House, and was an active member of Church of the Holy Apostles.
