

Rossville - William G. Finch, 83, passed from his earthly home Friday, May 10, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 7, 1929 to the late William Wister and Lula Gann Finch in New Site, MS. Mr. Finch graduated Valedictorian from New Site High School, a graduate of Northeast Mississippi Junior College and attended Tri State College in Indiana and Memphis State University. He served in the United States Air Force in Korea and Japan. He served as a Clerk for the Illinois Central Railroad and retired after 31 years with the Federal Aviation Administration in Electronics. He was a longtime member of Germantown Baptist Church and the Dunn Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Merrymakers and the Hallelujah Chorus. A member of the Spurs-N-Saddles Square Dance Club, he enjoyed travelling, fishing and was an avid supporter of the University of Memphis Basketball having been a season ticket holder for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Glen Nichols Finch, 3 daughters, Melissa Ely of Rowlett, TX, Phyllis Finch of Cordova and Cynthia Barton (Ron) of Knoxville, two sisters, Kathryn Swicord of Franklin and Margaret Conway of Memphis and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dimple Hall and Helen White. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15 at the Gemantown Baptist Church with a reception following. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Internment with Military Honors will be at 1:30 p.m., May 15 in the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
