December 12, 1939 – August 22, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep love, we share the passing of William Lee Skinner, also known as “Bill or Sonny”, a proud Navy veteran and beloved family man, who left us on August 22, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born in Quincy, Florida, on December 12, 1939, Sonny grew up with strong values and a deep sense of duty—qualities that shaped the way he lived his entire life. At just 17, he joined the U.S. Navy, beginning what would become a remarkable 30-year career. He rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 and served with honor, strength, and quiet determination. His time in the Navy gave him a lifetime of stories—some serious, many hilarious—that he loved sharing with his family and friends..
Family was everything to Bill. He built a life filled with love, tradition, and support. He raised three children—Joanie, Darryl, and Steve—with care, discipline, and plenty of laughs along the way. He was the rock of the family, offering wisdom, strength, and guidance through every season of life.
He had five grandsons—Stephen, Alexander, Zachary, Caleb, and William—and three great-grandchildren—Kayden, Harper, and Valdemar. His presence meant stories, good advice, a steady hand, and a whole lot of love. His bond with his brother, Tommy, remained strong throughout their lives—rooted in mutual respect, shared memories, and brotherly love. He is also survived by his wife, Caroline, to whom he was married for the last seven years of his life. Together, they enjoyed watching the sunsets and the calm waters of the East Bay.
In retirement, Bill didn’t slow down. He dove into everything he loved: golfing, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, and woodworking. Whether he was outdoors or in his workshop, he was at peace doing what brought him joy. His stories, especially from his Navy days, were always a hit—bringing history, humor, and heart to every family gathering.
Bill lived a life defined by faith, service, and love. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
