Bernadette K. Hoban (nee Carr) of Collingswood, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday September 1, 2018 at the age of 82. Born in Camden, NJ she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Edna Carr. For 60 years, she was the devoted and cherished wife of John T. Hoban Sr.

She was the loving mother of Kathryn (Jack) Tennar, Bernadette (Robert) Mehmet, the late Maureen Hoban, John (Lynn) Hoban Jr., Patrick (Sindy) Hoban, Linda Hasson, Kevin (Kathleen) Hoban, and Joseph (Colette) Hoban. Dear sister of Jeanne Patzer, Kathryn Carr, Mary Shute, Bernard Carr and the late Patricia Robinson. She was the adored “Nan” of 23 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Bernadette lived for her family. Sunday dinners were filled with laughter, her home cooking, followed by her love of piano playing. She was her family’s go-to seamstress; anything from simple alterations to making wedding gowns. Bernadette was a woman of many talents. She could be found gardening on a sunny day, refinishing a piece of furniture alongside her husband, or in the kitchen baking one of her famous desserts. Bernadette’s love of music could be heard throughout the halls of many nursing homes where she volunteered for 25 years.

Bernadette was devoted to her Catholic faith, and by example, these values were instilled in her family. She and her husband have been long time parishioners of St. Theresa of Calcutta Parish, St. John Church. During the week, she would be seen heading to daily mass driving her 1987, Grand Marquis. Bernadette will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched. Friends and family are invited to the viewing on Wednesday September 5, 5:00 – 8:00 pm at BLAKE-DOYLE Funeral Home 226 W. Collings Ave. Collingswood, NJ 08108. A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday September 6, 10:30 am at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. John Church, 809 Park Ave. Collingswood. Bernadette was a Godly woman whose love for Jesus shined in her everyday life. Her gift of music lit up so many lives, I’m sure in the nursing homes as she danced her fingers over the ivory.
It would be fun when all th “ CARR” sisters got together with all their musical instruments including “ the spoons” , washboard, banjo and of course their traditional angelic voices.
Bernadette, now you rest in the arms of Jesus with your brand new body while being in the Chekina Glory Of God.

To all the Hoban family members - I could never express how very much it meant to me to know that your kind, caring, loving mother always kept my son and myself on her prayer list over many years that my son struggled with substance abuse. There were times that I felt no one but she was thinking of and praying for him. She lived such a wonderful life of giving and caring, and I consider myself blessed to have known her. May you all find comfort in the knowledge of all the lives I know she touched throughout her life. With deepest sympathy, Joy Hasson Kidd
