Donna Suzanne McKeegan Carmello was born in Darby, PA on June 27, 1946 to Warren and Josephine McKeegan (Cody). Donna was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Carmello on July 16, 2020 and her parents.
Donna was educated at St. Matthias school in Bala-Cynwyd. After Donna was finished with school she worked as a nanny for many years and then took a job running the coffee station at Horn & Hardart’s in Philadelphia. After they closed, Donna got a job with ARA at Villanova where she met her husband Al. Their son Joseph was born on August 7, 1975. When Joseph, was older, in the mid-80’s, Donna worked for McDonald’s .
Donna loved family parties and always enjoyed interacting with aunts and cousins. Wherever Donna lived Donna knew everyone in their various apartments, rented houses, assisted living facilities, etc. Donna knew all the gossip and, over the last 50 years, she would call to fill me in with all the news about neighbors and family. She loved talking on the phone with relatives and friends. Donna knew all the bus and El transit systems and loved to take Joseph for rides. Tiny Town, on 69th street in Upper Darby, was a favorite trip with Joseph.
Donna is survived by her only son Joseph and his wife Heather, her brother Gerry McKeegan and his wife Joan, sisters Denise Healy and her husband Bart, Nancy McKeegan and her husband Dan Quaranto, Jessica McKeegan Jensen and her partner, Mark Iler, 13 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends including her beloved godson, Edward Levi Dodd, III.
A Funeral Mass will celebrate her life on Friday, September 16th at 11:00 at St. Matthias in Bala-Cynwyd. The funeral service will be streamed. Donna and Al’s ashes will be buried, in the near future, at Holy Sepulchre in Rochester, New York where her son lives.
