Dorothy “Dot” Pearl Jackson, the youngest daughter of the late Walter and Idella Christen passed away peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2021 at her residence she shared with her son Craig Jackson in Atlanta, Georgia. Born on April 25, 1934 in Moultrie, Georgia, she was one of ten children.
She is preceded in death by her parents Idella and Walter Christen, sons Larry and Cleveland Christen, along with her 6 sisters Eula Mae Harris, Corine Johnson, Ethel Brooks, Novella Christen, Willie Mae Walker and 3 brother Lawrence Christen, Walter Christen Jr and Willie Christen
She leaves to cherish her memory, sister Vernice Summers (Newark, NJ), son Craig A. Jackson (Atlanta, GA), daughter Nancy R. Jackson (Atlanta, GA); 8 grandchildren, the oldest Ifa M. Walker-Ali (Atlanta, GA), Akilah Walker (Howell, NJ), Tequila Robinson Marvine (Neptune, NJ), Denise Conover (Conyers, GA), Tequia Conover Jackson (Atlanta, NJ), Timothy Conover Branch (Willingboro, NJ), and Tony Conover (Houston, TX), twenty-four great grandchildren (Haneef, Jamylah, Rafiq, Asir, Idris, Su’myyah, Akisha, Ke’Shawn, Ah’Daliah, Ja’Juane, Allize, Garrick Jr, Asiyyah, Kelis, Asa Jr, Joshua, Ani, Tanazia, Tyveonna, Taleyah, Ty’Neisha, Jevonte, Mi’Naya and Dominic), several beloved nieces, nephews, friends and family. As well as her devoted, beloved nieces Joanne Walker and Juanita Burris who served as care takers in the last few years.
Dorothy left Moultrie, Georgia around the age of 17 with son Larry Christen in tow and moved to the big northern city of Asbury Park, New Jersey where she initially resided with her beloved mother Idella Christen. She flourished in New Jersey working various jobs until she found her home at Roxanne Swimsuits where she worked for 20+ years until she retired. Dorothy was even selected to appear in a television commercial for Roxanne, in which she received local stardom! Dorothy furthered her education and completed coursework to earn her GED. In her leisure time, Dorothy enjoyed bowling; she was a stellar member of several shore teams as well as sewing and cooking; she enjoyed learning new dishes to cook. She also enjoyed traveling; she went on many vacations and cruises with the social organization ‘The Golden Girls’ in addition to trips with dear friends. Dorothy's most endearing quality was her loving and caring spirit as well as her infectious smile and laugh. She loved for people around her to laugh and enjoy life!
Dorothy was a long standing member for over 40 years at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and had a very active role at her beloved Mt. Carmel. She served on many ministries including the floral club, pastor’s aide, usher board, senior choir, gospel choir and the seacost usher board.
FAMILY HISTORY
Walter Christen and Idella Ransome were married in Ellenton, Georgia, Jan 1, 1918. Walter Christen was born around May 2, 1898. Idella Ransome was born around Sept 12, 1901 to Lawrence and Nancy Ransome. Eula Mae Harris was the first born of this union on May 20, 1917
