

Loving husband of 72 years to the late Naomi L Hawkins (nee Hutchinson). Beloved father of Robert (Lenore) Hawkins and the late Judith (Survived by Arthur) Davis. Devoted grandfather of Deborah Steinhaus, Christine (Christopher) DellaVecchio, Melissa (James P) Graham, Amanda Hawkins, Jonathan Hawkins and the late Ernest Steinhaus. Also survived by 7 great grandchildren.
He served in the US Navy during WWII in Paris, France with the NATS
While employed at NY Shipbuilding Corp, he continued his electrical work for several years while returning to Drexel University at night and becoming an electrical designer. He later worked on projects such as the first Nuclear powered ship the “ USS Savanna” and many more of the first Nuclear powered submarines. His career continued to lead him doing more with nuclear powered plants built in many parts of the world, working for the leading Design Engineering firms. It should be noted that all of the time he performed these jobs he continuously operated an Electrical Contracting Business…” Hawkins and Son Electrical Contracting”. This occupied the evenings making estimates and weekends performing the work.
His work was his life….but he always made time for his family.
He was a 32nd degree Master Mason with the Ionic lodge in Camden NJ.
Also a member of the Lindenwold Lions club, American Legion and VFW both in New Jersey and Spring Hill, Florida.
He retired in Florida for almost 20 years with his wife, and then returned to New Jersey to be closer to his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation 9:30am , Saturday , December 29, 2012 at the Blake-Doyle Funeral Home, 226 Collings Ave, Collingswood. Memorial Service 10:30am. Inurnment Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill.
