Devoted uncle of Barbara Mrozowski, Richard Mathern, Thomas Mathern, Joseph Bruno, Linda Howell and predeceased Joseph Mathern. Cherished great uncle of many nieces and nephews and great, great uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Frank was a WWII Army Veteran. During the late winter/early spring 1944 and serving with the Army’s 34th Infantry Division, 168th Infantry Regiment, Pfc Mathern fought at the Battle of Monte Cassino, aka the Battle for Rome, which drove the Germans out and cleared the way to Rome and contributed to the eventual defeat of Hitler. A battle that witnessed ~55,000 allied casualties and in excess of 20,000 German casualties. For his efforts, PFC Mathern received the Bronze Star with “V” for Valor. Other awards include the Good Conduct medal, European Africa Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 3 stars, American Campaign medal, and WWII medal, and Expert Rifle Badge.
Frank was a humble man, loving son, cherished uncle, a genuine family man. He also put others first. He was resident of the United Methodist Home of Collingswood where he had many friends. He was very easy to get along with. Frank had a joy of life that he shared through his humor. He will be missed by many.
