Born on August 8, 1942 in Stamford, Connecticut, to Thomas Keating and Mary Alice Keating, Joan loved being the little sister to her big brother Thomas. She was raised in Collingswood, New Jersey, and cherished her family home on Palmer Avenue, where she later raised her own family and lived for 74 years.
Joan attended high school at St. Mary’s of the Angels Academy in Haddonfield, New Jersey. Her caring nature led her to work as a teacher’s assistant at Camden County Daycare Center, where she took care of children with special needs. She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed visiting her family in Limerick, Ireland.
On December 29, 1962, Joan married Alfred John Teschko, the love of her life. Together, they raised three boys and one girl in their Palmer Avenue home, creating many priceless memories. Joan loved her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandson, and her church, where she sang in the St. John’s Catholic Church choir. She liked to shop and remember loved ones’ special occasions, always in search of the perfect card at the local Hallmark store. Her children fondly remember her sweet laughter, and cherish the memories from their family vacations at the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey. In Joan’s retirement years, she enjoyed the company of her two cats, who were a source of joy and comfort.
Joan was predeceased in death by her parents; Thomas and Mary Keating, her husband Alfred Teschko, her brother Thomas Keating, and her grandson Kyle Teschko. She is survived by her children Kevin (Colleen) Teschko, Mark (Michele) Teschko, Craig (Danielle) Teschko, Julie (Quinn) Hume; her grandchildren Kilian (Emily) Teschko, Connor (Courtney) Teschko, Keegan Teschko, Nicole (Taylor) Kane, Alexa Teschko, Austen Teschko, Logan Hume and Cedric Hume; and great-grandson Bowie Kane. Joan will be remembered at a beachside memorial in the summer of 2024, where family and friends will honor her life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center at www.homewardboundnj.org/donate, and indicate the gift is in memory of Joan Teschko.
