

John (Jack) T. Hoban Sr., of Collingswood, NJ, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday January 28, 2024, at the age of 91. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Walter and Marietta Hoban. For 60 years, he was the devoted and cherished husband of the late Bernadette K. Hoban (nee Carr).
He was the loving father of Kathryn (Jack) Tennar, Bernadette (Robert) Mehmet, the late Maureen Hoban, John (Lynn) Hoban Jr., Patrick Hoban, Linda (Al) Nichols, Kevin (Kathleen) Hoban, and Joseph (Colette) Hoban. Dear brother of the late Walter Hoban and the late Elizabeth Sklar. He was the adored “Pop” of 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Jack was a graduate of Camden Catholic High School and Villanova University with a degree in Economics. He served in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division, 46th AAA and was stationed in Germany. He worked for Texaco Eagle Point Plant and transitioned to RCA Missile and Surface RADAR division in Moorestown N.J. where he worked for 32 years and retired.
Jack lived for his family. He regularly assisted all the family members with his extensive knowledge of home improvements. He was an avid woodworker fabricating his large volume of whirligigs designs which can be seen all over the Delaware Valley. For most of his adult life, he was a member of local bowling and golf leagues. Jack was also a restoration volunteer, with many friends, on the USS New Jersey (BB-62) Museum and Memorial for 22 years. For the last 17 years, he was an active volunteer and coordinator for Sgt. 1st Class Robert H. Yancey Sr. Stand Down of South Jersey where homeless and at-risk veterans were provided a multitude services.
Jack was devoted to his Catholic faith, attending Mass every day, a habit he started as a student at Villanova. These values were instilled in his family through his example. Jack and his late wife, Bernadette, have been long time parishioners of St. Theresa of Calcutta Parish, St. John Church.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing on Friday February 2, 4:00 – 8:00 pm at BLAKE-DOYLE Funeral Home 226 W. Collings Avenue, Collingswood, NJ 08108. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday February 3, 10:30 am at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. John Church, 809 Park Avenue, Collingswood.
