

Monsignor Martin Joseph Mannion, lovingly known as Father Joe, passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 87. A beloved and compassionate soul, Father Joe was cherished by many who had the privilege of knowing him. He was born on December 11, 1937, in County Mayo, Ireland, where he completed his early education. Father Joe was ordained in June of 1962 at St. Patrick's Seminary in Carlow, Ireland, marking the beginning of a life devoted to faith and inspiration.
Pursuing further education, Father Joe earned a master’s degree from LaSalle University in 1972. His career was defined by years of faithful service and dedication to the communities he served. He began as Parochial Vicar in several parishes within the Camden Diocese and later became Pastor at St. John's in Collingswood, a position he held with grace for 30 years. Father Joe’s influence extended into Catholic education, where he served as Guidance Director first for Camden Catholic High School from 1967 to 1978, and subsequently at Sacred Heart from 1978 to 1981. He also made significant contributions to the Camden Diocesan Vocation Board and Review Board over many years.
In his personal life, Father Joe is remembered as a devoted family member. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Winifred, and his siblings Harry, Peggy, Herbert, Sean, Dermot, Mary, Thomas and Evelyn. He is survived by his siblings, Irene, Jarlath, Maretta, and Monica. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Father Joe resided in Brigantine, New Jersey, where he continued to touch the lives of those around him with his compassion and inspiration.
As we reflect on Father Joe’s legacy, we remember a life of service, devotion, and unwavering faith. May his memory be a cherished blessing to those he leaves behind.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at Saint John’s Church, Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 809 Park Avenue, Collingswood, NJ. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill, NJ.
The funeral mass will be streamed via zoom.
