Born on April 1, 1954, in Camden, New Jersey, Patricia was the daughter of the late Catherine and Edward Carels. Alongside her beloved siblings, Edward (Pat) Carels, Kathleen (Doug) McIntyre, and Maryanne (Jack) Kennedy, she attended St. Aloysius elementary school and later Paul VI High School, where she made countless memories with a close circle of lifelong friends.
She was married to the love of her life, Warren Wright, for more than 45 beautiful years. Together, they built a joyful home and tight-knit family, raising three children, Andrea, Brian, and Kyle, and welcoming their partners Beau, Brendan, and Samantha into the mix with open arms. Trish, or “Mimi,” was a vibrant and warm-hearted grandmother to Sadie, Blaze, Aiden, her step-grandchildren, and another little one on the way.
Trish dedicated her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally. As a registered nurse at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, among other institutions, she devoted much of her career to dialysis and gynecological oncology, where she was fiercely proud of the compassion and dignity she provided to so many people. This often extended into her personal life, where she never hesitated to refer a doctor, make a call, share medical information, or lend an ear or shoulder to cry on to any friend, loved one, or stranger in need. And we know that even in the final stages of her terrible disease, she would have been quick to remind us that someone always has it worse.
Music was the backdrop of Trish’s life. Whether it was playing Joni Mitchell on repeat, Bowie concerts with her sister, acing 70s song trivia with Warren, or teaching her kids what good music was all about, there was rarely a moment where she wasn’t humming a tune or reminiscing about the memories a long-lost song brought up. Trish was always the first one on a wedding dance floor or kicking off a spontaneous dance party on the deck at Lake Michigan. She had a way of turning any time or space into a celebration.
Trish cherished summers in North Wildwood, where her love story with Warren began, and where she created endless memories with family and friends. In recent years, she found comfort and peace at her shore house, alongside the beach she loved so dearly.
She is survived by her husband, children, siblings, and countless adored relatives, and will be missed deeply by all who were lucky to know and love her.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, May 12th from 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Haddon Township, NJ, followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 AM. Those wishing to honor her memory may donate to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration or the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, a cause close to her heart.
