Alberta was born to Frank Anton and Jennie Smigay in Chicago Illinois on August 30, 1924.
Alberta graduated from Carl Shurs High School, right down the street from Wrigley Field, and attended a night college while working for Chicago Title and Trust. In 1948, Alberta traveled with a girl-friend on a bus tour to visit the Pikes Peak region. She fell in love with Little London and convinced her family to move to Colorado Springs.
On New Year’s Day, 1951, she met a Camp Carson soldier, Lyle Pierson, on a blind date set up by her sister Lenora. Six weeks later, on February 10, 1951, Alberta and Lyle were married. Lyle soon got orders to go to Alaska and Alberta took a transport plane with her beloved sister Lenora to be with him and Lenora’s husband Paul. This was the one and only time Alberta flew on an airplane. They enjoyed the Yukon and all it had to offer for 13 months. After a short stay in Michigan, Alberta and Lyle came back to Colorado Springs to raise their family. They were blessed with two children, Lyle Francis and Karen Jean. Alberta and Lyle recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
Alberta worked for Shepards, McGraw Hill for over 30 years retiring in 1986.
Alberta loved her grandchildren, animals, and reading. She was a kind and charitable giver to the many causes she supported including environmental organizations.
Alberta is survived by her loving husband Lyle, son Lyle Francis, daughter Karen (Shannon), and grandsons Patrick and Sean. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Frank and sister Lenora, as well her niece Valli.
