Alfred Lamar Purser

Alfred was born on August 2, 1949, in Cochran, Georgia, to Alfred Hugh Purser and Melba Lee Purser. He grew up alongside his two sisters, Monteen and Patricia, and his Georgia roots remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.

From 1968 to 1971, Alfred proudly served his country in the United States Army, including service in Vietnam. His service to his country was something he and his family held with great pride, and he will receive military honors in recognition of that service.

Following his service in Vietnam, Alfred was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. It was in Colorado that he married and began raising his family, becoming the father of four children. Colorado became his home, and he continued to reside there for the remainder of his life.

Alfred spent much of his life in service to others. After serving his country, he continued serving his community, including working as a sheriff and later dedicating 27 years to the Colorado Mental Health Institute. His career reflected so much of who Alfred was —a man who believed in helping people, showing up when he was needed, and looking out for others. From his military service to his years of public service, helping and protecting others was woven throughout his life.

Those who knew Alfred knew a man who was kind, sweet, funny, and fiercely loyal to the people he loved. He was the kind of friend you could count on and someone who was always willing to lend a hand to another person. Helping others came naturally to him, and his kindness left an impression on the many people fortunate enough to know him.

Alfred was also a devoted sports fan. His Georgia roots showed every football season through his love for the Georgia Bulldogs, and he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Atlanta Braves. Whether celebrating a big win or enduring a tough loss, he remained a loyal fan through it all.

Above everything else, Alfred loved his family.

He leaves behind his four children, Alfred Jr. (Denise), Waylon (Patricia), Tammy Dolak (Gregg), and Richard (Ruby), along with many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Monteen and Patricia, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved their “Uncle Lamar” deeply and will forever treasure the love, laughter, and kindness he shared with them.

Alfred also leaves behind his longtime and faithful companion, his beloved cat, London —affectionately known to him simply as “Kitty-Kitty.” More than a pet, London was a constant source of companionship, comfort, and emotional support, always close by his side.

Alfred also leaves behind extended family and many friends whose lives were made better by knowing him.

Alfred’s family will remember his humor, his sweetness, his loyalty, his willingness to help others, and the love he gave so freely. His absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those who loved him, but his family finds comfort in their faith and in knowing that this goodbye is not forever.

A Celebration of Life honoring Alfred will be held at Mountain Springs Church on Monday, August 31st, 2026 at 11:30 a.m.

Following the Celebration of Life, Alfred will receive Military Honors and Committal at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, honoring his faithful service to our country.

Alfred was deeply loved as a son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He lived a life of service—to his country, his community, and to the people he loved. His family will carry his memory, his stories, his legacy, his laughter, and his love alongside them now and forever.
