Allen Wayne Norris was born on July 13, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA to Gladys and Chauncey Norris. He grew up in southern California with his older brother Ronald and younger sister Kaye playing sports and surfing on the ocean. His love of baseball found him playing for many professional teams in the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations such as the Albuquerque Dukes. His professional baseball career was cut short when he was drafted into the Army where he proudly served his country for several years.
After earning his Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico, he had several different career paths. These included sporting goods retail and owning his own Photography Studios in Albuquerque, NM and then Colorado Springs, CO where he helped capture on film many special occasions for people, including over 1,300 weddings.
After retiring, he kept busy in his baseball “man cave” where he was able to have an indoor batting cage at the house. He also relaced baseball gloves for local hobbyist baseball and softball players and had time to be more involved in his church where he had served as a deacon and made many close friendships over his 36 years as a member.
Allen had a passion for baseball and traveling, with the highlight being a trip to Japan with his wife Carol that included taking in three baseball games. He also enjoyed watching old movies with family. But mostly he loved spending time with his wife Carol, kids, grandkids and especially his best friend Dodger, his cocker spaniel.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents Gladys and Chauncey and his brother Ronald. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 36 years; daughters Kim Griffin, Kathy Carlton, Amy Ramsey, Angie Chiriboga, and Amber Fuerstenberger; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and sister Kaye Norris. He will be remembered not only by all those who knew and loved him, but also by those who still have his baseball trading cards in their collections.
A Memorial Service for Allen will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 2:05pm at Academy Christian Church, 1635 Old Ranch Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80908. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the South Pacific Christian Fellowship in honor of Allen.
