

Alvin E. Tipton, passed away at home in Colorado Springs on April 15, 2013. He was born January 22, 1930 to George and Maude tipton at home on a farm south east of Calhan. He attended Alta Vista and graduated from Calhan High School. He enlisted in the military right out of high school. He married Erma Jean “Jeanie” Orcutt January 21, 1951. He was an independent oil producer in Kansas until he retired in 1988, when he returned to Colorado.
Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by his parents George and Maude Wootten Tipton; sisters Inez Meier, Lois Richardson, Marie Urban, Buelah Lawson, Irma Dragoo, and one brother Dale Tipton.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 62 years Jeanie Tipton; two daughters Sandra Ryherd and Candice Carroll (David) of Colorado Springs; one brother Don Tipton of Irving, TX; and one sister Ellen Johnson of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by three granddaughters Gina Mahoney, Andrea Ryherd and Ashley Edwards; one grandson Lance Ryherd; and 6 greatgrandchildren.
A visitation and gathering for family and friends with a reception will take place Friday April 19, 2013 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO. The burial will take place at Calhan Cemetery, Highway 24 and 8th Street in Calhan, CO at 2:00pm.
