Amy grew up during the turbulent and scarcity dominated culture of World War II in Honolulu and Molokai. Due to the need of her parents to work two jobs, much of her childhood was devoted to caring for her younger sisters and brother.
After graduating from high school, she embarked on a daring and solo journey to attend nursing school in Ogden, Utah, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1953. Her completion of the training was followed by work as a nurse and a degree in Nursing from the University of Utah.
In 1957 she married her future and eternal companion, Gordon, which began 58 years of happy and fulfilling marriage.
Because of Gordon’s frequent travel connected with forestry and fire management, Amy had heavy responsibility for rearing their two sons, Dean and James, while residing in Forest Service assignments throughout Utah and Idaho. They finally settled in Boise, Idaho for 45 years. Later, the ravages of multiple diseases cut short plans for travelling and relaxing. They relocated to Colorado Springs in 2013.
Graveside services will be held in Colorado Springs at Memorial Gardens at 2:30 p.m. on September 5, 2015.
