Anthony, known by some, and Tony by others; passed away that evening at UCHEALTH Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. He took his final breath with his beloved wife, Maria “Margaret” and his daughter, Elysia “Britt” by his sides.
Anthony was born in Trinidad, CO to parent’s Josephine and Paul Tamez. As a young boy, Anthony and his family made their way out west to settle in California. As a teen, he loved spending time with friends and family, but was just full of life. As he got older, he attended Marina High School where he graduated. And of what came next for young Anthony, the decision to join the Air Force was ever so present. This is where he spent 4 years (1968-1972) of his life. With boots on the ground, Anthony achieved Sargent rank in a communications unit serving in The Vietnam War. This sparked his passion later in life to help and serve his fellow brother and sister in arms and joined the Auburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1741 in Auburn, WA.
Through the years proceeding his service years in the Air Force; California finally called him back “home”. This is where he would’ve met the love of this life, his hon, his “little mama”, Maria at a brokerage firm for the first time. Through years of being passers by and life changes for each other, they decided to marry, in where they spent 36 years together. As a kind, dependable, an unwavering “shirt off his back” kind of man, Anthony was there whenever, for whoever, needed him.
In addition to his life partner Maria “Margaret” Tamez, he leaves behind his 2 precious daughters; Kimberly Misa (Stockton, CA) and Elysia Brittany Tamez (Colorado Springs, CO). And as many would have known Anthony, they would’ve known his love for grandchildren: Taylor, Jillian, and Alyssa and his only grandson Erius. Anthony is survived by many that call him brother: Helen Fair of New South Wales, Australia, Jess Tamez of California, Chuck Howard of California, and Joyce Skaggs of Indiana. He leaves behind his legacy that will echo through out eternity by his countless nephews and nieces all over the globe. Anthony has now joined many of his friends and family that have passed before him especially his parents: Emily, Josephine, and Paul; his brother Leonard “Lenny”; and his son Jon.
The memorial service will be held at Memorial Gardens Funeral, Cremation, and Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO on March 11, 2021 at 10am. Anthony will take his journey to his final resting place at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery following the memorial at 2pm. On Sunday March 14, 2021, his family will be opening the doors of their home to all that would love to participate in Anthony’s life with refreshments. His family will present to welcome any and all that would love to celebrate Anthony.
In Anthony’s name, if you so wish, he would’ve loved you supporting organizations that were dear to him: your local Veterans of Foreign War post, the Parkinson’s Foundation, or the American Lung Association
