

Toni was born January 27, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Ruth and Henry Corwirth Dangler. She was a life-long resident of Colorado Springs. Toni died Tuesday April 23, 2013 at the age of 96.
She is survived by four children; Margo (John) Freeman of St. George Utah, Nancy (Bill) Ball of Colorado Springs, Alph (Veronique) Newman of Johannesburg South Africa and Barbara (Jeff) Wengrovius of Scotia New York. She is also survived by her half-brother Menso Boissevain of Denver Colorado. She had eight grandchildren Robert Freeman, David Freeman, Karen Gardiner, Corrie Kalivoda, Bill Ball, Thomas Freeman, Erin Wengrovius and Sam Wengrovius. She had twenty great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Newman of Detroit and Colorado Springs and her half-sister Marie Boissevain La Farge of Colorado Springs. She left a large extended family and many dear friends.
Following the death of her father, her mother moved to Colorado Springs and it was here that Toni grew up. As a girl she attended school here and high school at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla California where she graduated in1934, finishing her education at Bennington College in Vermont. In the summer of 1937 Toni married Henry Newman. Following the war, during which Henry served in the U.S. Army, the family returned to Colorado Springs and to Fountain Valley School. Henry was a member of the school faculty where the family lived on campus for several years before moving to Broadmoor. After the death of Henry she continued to maintain her close ties and friendship with the school.
Toni enjoyed many interests, decorating her home with beautiful works of needlepoint and crewel. She was an avid gardener and was an active member of the Colorado Springs Garden Club. Toni enjoyed the company of family and friends, a night out or a party. She was great fun to be with.
She was a tireless traveler. As a young girl she traveled with her mother to Europe. With Henry and her children there were summers on Nantucket Island and spring vacations in Santa Fe or Tucson. She cruised the world and toured in countless countries. She loved visiting new places and learning about a country and its’ culture. The world will seem a smaller place without her.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. Private burial will take place Monday the 29th at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs.
