ARTHUR LLOYD EGGERS, age 84, died after a long illness, on 14 July 2017. He was born on 25 March 1933, in Joliet, Illinois – the eldest of three sons of Lloyd and Lily Jagger Eggers. He graduated from The University of Illinois with a BS in Engineering Physics, and served two years of active service in the Army Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth and the Pentagon. From 1955, Arthur worked as a systems-engineer with IBM, Satellite Business Systems and MCI, within the cities of Poughkeepsie, New York; Washington, D.C. and Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The quintessential quiet man and gentleman of few words, Arthur was a man of great one-liners and a person of tremendous generosity. From his retirement in 1997, Arthur has been an enthusiastic weekly volunteer at Habitat for Humanity as well as at Thrift House within Colorado Springs. Always a romantic at heart who liked creating, Arthur was a talented stained-glass designer-fabricator in collaboration with his wife. He was a founding member of Colorado Springs Chapter of Slow Food International to promote the regional farmers and chefs.
A climber, a sailor, and an inveterate traveler, Arthur was always planning and looking forward to his next pilgrimage adventures. He was a life-long learner who read constantly on many subjects ever with a quest for new knowledge. A man of abiding faith, Arthur was a long-time member of Grace and St Stephen Episcopal Church where he served in many ways.
Arthur is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Constance Wittig Eggers; his wife’s cousins, the Dolans; and his adopted-family, the Corkerns.
A service of Holy Eucharist and Remembrance will be held on Saturday, 19 August 2017, at 10:00 am, within Grace and St Stephen Episcopal Church. Memorial gifts may be made to his church’s Organ Restoration Fund.
