Austin Bryant Worbington, age 20, passed away in a tragic accident on May 11, 2016 in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was a loving son, brother, and friend. “Worby” was known for having a golden heart, a strong work ethic, and an infectious laugh.
Austin was born on April 24, 1996 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Doyle and Jamie (Rushing) Worbington. Austin was a resident of Falcon, Colorado since 1998, and graduated from Falcon High School in 2015. While at Falcon, he was a dedicated 3 sport athlete, a member of Student Council, HOSA, and NHS. He was a quarter back and wide receiver for the Falcon High School Falcons. Austin recently completed his freshman year studying kinesiology at Colorado Mesa University, where he also played football as a wide receiver for the Mavericks. He was attending CMU on an academic scholarship and was a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC).
“Worby” is known for saying “Height doesn’t measure heart.” He was proud of his religious beliefs and loved attending Woodmen Valley Chapel.
He is survived by his parents, Doyle and Jamie Worbington; his sisters, Elizabeth Nicole Worbington and Ashley Marie Worbington; and his grandparents, Nan and Johnny Rushing, and Doyle and Liz Worbington. He is also survived by his nephew, Dawson Lou Parker; his uncle and aunt, Bryant and Pam Rushing; his cousins, Chelsey Archer and Chancey Rushing; and numerous other family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue. Memorial Service is planned for 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Woodmen Valley Chapel, Rockrimmon Campus, 290 East Woodmen Road.
Austin is the light for many others, so it is appropriate that Austin’s last social media post was John 8:12. “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world, whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Austin “Worby” Worbington Memorial Scholarship Fund. Donations may be made online at scicolorado.org, or mailed to the Colorado Chapter of SCI, 212 West Buchanan Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907.
