On November 15, 1977, in Colorado Springs, CO, a bright and unusual soul entered the world. On March 12, 2025 - again in Colorado Springs - that same bright light passed away peacefully in his sleep. At only 47 years old, he left us all far too soon.
If you were lucky enough to know Ben - aka Benny-Boom-Boom - aka Boomer - aka Button - you know he gave the most heartfelt, comforting hugs. He would help anyone who needed it, never met a stranger, and could talk your ear off. Ben was a lifelong Trekkie, a passionate traveler with an outgoing spirit and a big heart for everyone. Many who knew him have said that if only one word could describe him, it would be love.
Ben grew up in Woodland Park, Colorado, where he formed many lifelong friendships. His professional journey led him to the telecommunications industry at T-Mobile, where his natural ability to connect with people helped him rise to become a trainer for customer service teams. Whether in Seattle or San Francisco, Ben always seemed to thrive in roles where he could coach, encourage, and inspire others.
When Ben chose to return to Colorado, he was in a position to help his parents with the kind of time, care, and presence that meant the world to them. He was often their go-to tech support and handyman, always just a phone call away when needed. The past several years Ben also drove his father to his monthly ‘Geezers’ Lunch’ and was inducted as an ‘honorary geezer.’
Ben is survived by his mother, Phyllis Delaney; his father and stepmother, Dick and Renee DeMey; his partner, Daniel Valdez; his siblings, Daniel DeMey, Michelle DeMey, and Rebecca (DeMey) Davis; his many nieces and nephews; and his extended chosen family of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on May 3, 2025, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 7400 Tudor Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80919. If you plan to attend, please let the family know via https://shorturl.at/alR4A
As Spock once said, “A Vulcan would face such a loss without tears, by understanding every life comes to an end when time demands it. Loss of life is to be mourned, but only if the life was wasted.” Ben’s life was anything but wasted. It was full, bold, curious, courageous, and deeply loving. Ben never left anyone without a hug and an “I love you.” So, Ben, we hug you with our hearts - and we love you.
