

Benjamin Anthony LaCome was born on June 8th, 1954 in Leadville, CO to parents Alonzo and Ernestine LaCome. He is survived by his mother, his wife, Lucille, his children, Staci Taylor and Benjamin, his son -in law Broc Taylor, his brothers, Louis, Lonnie, Moses and his sisters, April, and Josie. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
“Benny” to his wife, and friends, had an easy-going personality and was well liked by many and was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He had a great love for golfing, camping, hunting, and fishing. He treasured every summer by going into the mountains surrounding Leadville. Dreaming of the day where he would spend the morning playing 18 holes, the afternoon fishing his favorite spot, then relaxing the day away on his deck with good music and a sip of whiskey as the sun set.
Benny excelled in sports in his early years and was an honorary co-captain of his Lake County High School basketball team. After graduating in 1972, he began his working career at the Leadville Public Services and the Climax Mine before enlisting into the Navy in 1974. Upon completing his basic training, Benny was assigned to the USS England -22 as a Boiler Technician was deployed to Hawaii, Guam, The Philippines, and Japan. While stationed in Bremerton, WA he married his beautiful wife, Lucy in 1976 before moving to San Diego prior to his honorable discharge.
Returning from his enlistment, Benny and Lucy came home to Colorado Springs to start their family. That year, the Springs was selected as home for the US Olympic Training Center and Benny was brought on as their Maintenance Superintendent. He was later employed with Central States Roofing where he also become a long-standing member of Roofer Union Local 58. Over the next 40 years, he became one of company’s youngest Forman, and one of their most valuable leaders. Benny was a confident, dedicated and hard worker in everything he did. He put his heart into it, no matter what it was, and he expected nothing less than 100 percent from those that he worked with. He lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all who knew him.
God called Benny home on September 3, 2020.
