Bernard (Bernie) was born June 9, 1932, to Walter and Laura Steeve at the family farm south of Clarinda, Iowa where he grew up with his brother and two sisters until moving to Colorado Springs. He always kept a special love for the farm and family, including the time spent riding a horse with his brother to attend a one-room country school. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1951 and then attended the University of Nebraska where he received a business degree in 1955. He spent his college summers working in Estes Park where he learned his love of the mountains and Colorado. This led him to move to Colorado Springs and begin a career in banking at the Exchange National Bank for 25 years. He went on to operate small businesses, including a vending business for 15 years, and managed rental properties for nearly 60 years.
Bernie enjoyed bowling, skiing, yard work, and travelling. He was an active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church, holding several positions and singing in the choir for 60 years. He enjoyed volunteering his time with the Braille Workers, Mercy Meals, and driving for Silver Key for 21 years.
He met Sondra (Sandy) Kandt while in Walther League and they were married in 1961. They were blessed with three children. He was a quiet, kind, and generous husband and father who very much loved his family.
Bernie is survived by his wife Sondra Steeve, sister Leonora Hubbard, daughters Renee Steeve and Suzanne Steeve, son Brian Steeve, and grand-daughters Laura Steeve and Helen Palmer. He was proceeded in death by his brother Donald Steeve, and sister Ruth Thompson.
