
Bill was born August 18, 1938, in Granby, Colorado to MH and Ester L. Brown. His family moved to Wyoming when he was 1 year old where he was raised. Bill graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1956. He attended the University of Colorado Boulder in Civil Engineering before enlisting in the US Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant after serving 3 years.
Bill is survied by his wife of 64 years Karol (Schlumpberger) whom he married in Denver in 1961. He also leaves his son Perry (Anna); granddaughter Riley; brother Bob (Betty); and sister Linda. He was preceded in death by his daughter Melissa, his sister Diana, and his parents.
Bill worked for 55 years in the building construction industry. He was chief estimator for 2 national construction firms in San Francisco and Denver. In 1977 he joined GE Johnson Construction in Colorado Springs where he originated and managed the company's estimating and preconstruction departments and served as Vice President for 17 years. In 1994, he founded Preconstruction Services, Inc., an authoritative and successful building construction cost consulting business, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2017.
Bill loved life's adventures. He was a fireman on the mammoth Mallet stream locomotives for the Southern Pacific Railroad in California during his summer months while attending college. He loved to travel with Karol, including numerous vacations in Hawaii, Europe, and California's wine country. He enjoyed tennis, wine collecting, camping, and mountain hiking on Colorado's mountain trails and peaks. His passion was fly fishing the rivers of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. He obtained his private pilot's license at the age of 74.
Bill passed away on August 9, 2026, at the age of 87. His ashes will be scattered by his family, high on Colorado's mountains overlooking his beloved Gunnison country. It is Bill's request that there be no funeral or celebration of life events; rather that all friends and acquaintances raise a glass to him.
