Brent was born at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs on June 7, 1975, to Bruce and Marilyn (Janney) Nicklas. He spent the first ten years of his life growing up in Fountain, Colorado and then moved with his parents and siblings to the Old Farm neighborhood of Colorado Springs. While living in Old Farm, Brent attended Sabin Junior High and Doherty High Schools.
Though Brent led a sometimes-hard life, he always had a kind soul and gentle spirit. It was almost impossible to not get along with Brent and he was extremely giving and generous. Brent also had a huge love for animals. At a very young age, Brent had a deep fascination with insects and spiders. When he was still in elementary school, Brent received an extensive field guidebook on insects and spiders, which he took everywhere with him. By the time he was an adult, the binding of the book had a very large crease from all the usage.
Brent was predeceased by his mom, Marilyn Nicklas. Surviving family members are his dad, Bruce Nicklas; brother, B. Tim Nicklas; brother, Brian Nicklas (Melissa); and sister, Brenda Mason (Brad, also Brent’s closest friend since they were teenagers). Though he did not have any children of his own, Brent did have nine nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held for Brent at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 7400 Tudor Road in Colorado Springs at 1:00 on Saturday, June 28th.
