Carol Elizabeth Spurling

Carol Elizabeth (Burkett) Spurling was born to John Henry Burkett and Vessie Dupre, northeast of Rush, on December 26, 1932. She passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, at the home of her nieces, Collete and Wendy Lindt, at their private care facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Carol was preceded in death by her two brothers – Franklin Maytubby (Chub/Chief) and Calvin F. Maytubby (Snooks); two sisters, Otherine (Maytubby) Winter and Billie (Burkett) Bellmyer; son-in-law, Randy L. Gibbs; stepson, Randy Solberg, and loving companion Mike Kenney.

Carol is survived by her five children, Vicky L. Gibbs, Gary J. Spurling, Donna J. Visscher (Jon), Kevin R. Spurling, and Rhonda G. Eurich. Six grandchildren, Matt, Chris, and Justin Spurling, Kyle Spurling, Hailey (Visscher) Gomez (Eric), and Lindsey Visscher; two great-grandchildren, Leighton and Kennedy Spurling; and stepchildren Russell Solberg and Michelle (Solberg) Mobley. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Carol attended Lincoln Valley School and Edison High School, graduating in 1951. She married William (Bill Spurling) on June 25, 1954, to which her five children were born. She briefly lived in the Ellicott area and then the Falcon community for the remainder of her life. Carol enjoyed dancing, singing, and being outdoors. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
