Carol Joann, (VanWyk), Van Zandbergen, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, entered into heavens eternal resting place on October 29, 2023 at the age of 89.
Carol J. (Van Wyk) Van Zandbergen, the daughter of Clarence (Kent) and Gertrude (Bylsma) Van Wyk was born February 2, 1934 in Denver, Colorado.
Carol graduated from South High School in Denver, married Curtis Mulder, and, while raising her children, received a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Metro State College in Denver and a Masters degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado.
Carol’s love and desire to help people allowed her to see and live in different parts of the Country. Carol worked in Bethel, Alaska as an alcoholism councilor and a program director for a halfway house. In Anchorage, Alaska she worked with the Salvation Army. In Richmond, Indiana her work included counseling for drug and alcoholism. Her career in the Denver area included working with the Denver Police Department as well as at Denver General Hospital.
After retirement Carol moved to Iowa in 2001 and married Harold Van Zandbergen until his passing in 2012. She then returned to Ft. Collins, Colorado to be closer to family. In early 2023 Carol moved to Colorado Springs.
Carol loved to read, collect antique glass, spend time in the outdoors (especially the Colorado Rockies) and spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, her 3 older brothers, Thomas, Kenneth, Robert Van Wyk and great grandchild Eli Weber. She is survived by her 5 children, Carl (Lu Anne) Mulder of Minnesota, Nadine (Daniel) Weber of Florida, Lori (Dale) Wood of South Dakota, David (Diane-Deceased) Mulder of Golden, CO and C.Robert (Bob) (Marlynn) Mulder of Hot Sulphur Springs, CO, eleven grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
As a family, we’d like to express our gratitude to Gentivia Hospice, and so many who have blessed us with their thoughts, prayers and encouragement. God’s love through each of you has held us during this difficult time of loss.
A celebration of life for Carol will be held at a later date.
