On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, Catherine Williams Tran went to be with her Lord at Penrose Main Hospital in Colorado Springs, the same hospital in which she was born on July 6, 1976. The cause of death was multiple organ failure. She was 46 years of age. She was a tissue donor.
Catherine was the child of Jim and Joy Brown. Her childhood was spent primarily in Colorado Springs and Georgetown, Texas. She was an accomplished competitive equestrian from the age of nine. Catherine graduated from Georgetown High School in Texas in 1994. She was co-captain of the Colorado State University intercollegiate equestrian team and an instructor of riders of all levels at CSU until she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in history and political science in 1998. She completed her teaching credentials in social studies there in 2002.
In 2003 Catherine began teaching social studies at Fountain Middle School. She also periodically served as drama coach, department chair, and a class travel sponsor. Additionally, she was a founder and coach of the 6th, 7th, an 8th grade Knowledge Bowl. In recent years, she had discovered a talent for painting and had just begun to seriously explore that art form. Catherine will be remembered as a passionate teacher in a family of educators. She was intellectually curious and worked diligently to instill that curiosity as a life-long trait in her students as well as in her own children. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs.
Catherine is survived by her sons, Connor and James; as well as their father, Richard; her parents, Jim and Joy Brown; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws who will dearly miss her.
A graveside service for Catherine will be held Monday, March 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. The Reverend Matt Holtzman of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
