Cathy M Berry

Cathy Berry passed from this world into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on at the age of 68 October 31, 2022 after a brief illness. Cathy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Ruby and James Moon. She married Richard Berry, the love of her life who was serving in the United States Army. They traveled together to Germany where Rick was stationed, then to Fort Lewis, Washington where Rick spent the last few months of his enlistment. Cathy and Rick moved to Colorado Springs after Rick had been diagnosed and treated for progressive melanoma cancer. Cathy was an incredibly devoted wife, caring for Rick through the course of his disease until his passing in 1993. Cathy was predeceased by Rick, both her parents and her sister Clara Shorey. She is survived by her only son, Bobby Berry, sisters Mandy Dufrene and Terry Binder; nephews Jerry Binder Jr. (godchild) Brandon Dufrene and David Aresco; nieces Niki Degutis, Crissy Binder, Milena Judd and Sherry Young. Also surviving are sisters and brothers in law Barb and George Berry, Gail and Michael Berry. Nieces and nephews on the Berry side of the family include Timothy Berry (Siobhan), Michael Berry, Meghan Berry, Mathew Berry (Donna) and Kathryn Amaya (Christopher), Wayne Wasecheck (Kim), Rebecca Stiefel (Derek), James Berry (Amber), Christopher Berry and Stephen Berry.

Cathy was a recognized customer service agent at Focus on the Family, followed by working as a receptionist at Pikes Peak Hospice. Her experiences with personal loss, Focus on the Family and hospice receptionist led her to volunteer at Pikes Peak Hospice comforting patients and often singing their favorite songs. She formed and managed, until very recently, a grief support group providing emotional support and making many friends. She will be remembered for her love of the Lord, her compassion for others, the happy birthday song phone calls-some in the voice of Alvin the Chipmunk-her love of all animals and last but not least for her ability to remember and tell her jokes.

Services for Cathy will be held Tuesday morning, November 22nd, 2022 at Faith Covenant Bible Church, 1311 Columbine Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80907 beginning at 10:00 with reception following. Cathy will be buried with husband Rick at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
