Charles Albert Behrendt Jr.

Charlie was born on January 24, 1955, to Charles “Chuck” Behrendt Sr. and Helen Behrendt. He grew up in Custer County alongside his three brothers and one sister and graduated from Custer County High School.

A skilled and hardworking man, Charlie spent the early years of his career as a boilermaker and welder. His talents, determination, and willingness to take on a challenge eventually led him to one of his proudest accomplishments. In 1984, Charlie opened the Silver Dome Saloon and Music Hall, a place that would become an important part of his life and a lasting piece of his legacy in the community. The Silver Dome became a destination that drew people from all over the United States, bringing visitors together to enjoy music, good company, and the special atmosphere Charlie helped create.

In September 1987, Charlie married Mary Moose. Together they built a life and raised their two sons, Dustin Behrendt and Cliffton Behrendt. Charlie took great pride in his family, his work, and the community he called home throughout his life.

Charlie will be remembered as a man who knew how to work with his hands, build something from the ground up, and leave his mark on the place he loved. From his years as a boilermaker and welder to the creation of the Silver Dome, his life reflected hard work, determination, and a deep connection to Custer County.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Helen Behrendt; sister Charlotte; and brothers Everette and Terry.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Behrendt; his sons, Dustin Behrendt and Cliffton Behrendt; his granddaughter, Dahlia Behrendt; and other family members and friends who will carry his memory with them.

Charlie’s legacy lives on in his family, in the things he built, and in the many memories made over a lifetime in Custer County.
